When people order custom enamel pins, they usually focus on the design like colors, shapes, and style. But once the final product arrives, the most important question becomes: is it good quality?
As a factory with years of hands-on experience, we've seen thousands of enamel pins come through our production line. Some are simple, some are complex, but the best ones always have these five things in common.
Here's what we look for when checking the quality of enamel pins we produce.
- Crisp and Clean Metal Lines
Good enamel pins start with a good mold. Clean, well-defined metal lines are the foundation of every high-quality pin. The lines should be sharp and consistent, with no blurring, overflows, or rough edges.
These raised metal borders not only define the design but also separate the enamel colors. If the lines are uneven or broken, the enamel won’t fill properly, leading to sloppy results.
In our factory, we carefully inspect the mold before moving on to the next stage. Precise stamping = clean design.
- Even and Accurate Coloring
Filling enamel may look simple, but it requires skill and patience. Each area must be filled with the exact amount of color, not too much, not too little.
Soft enamel pins are especially tricky because the enamel sits lower than the metal lines, and overflow can ruin the clean look. Hard enamel, on the other hand, is polished flat after coloring, so we need to ensure the enamel is level before polishing.
We use both experienced workers and automated coloring machines to maintain consistency, especially for complex designs with many colors.
- Smooth Polishing (Especially for Hard Enamel)
Hard enamel pins go through a polishing step that makes the surface smooth and shiny. A good pin should have an even finish, without scratches or dull spots.
Over-polishing can wear down details, while under-polishing leaves the surface rough. That’s why we test-polish each batch before mass production, adjusting speed and pressure to find the sweet spot.
For soft enamel pins, the metal lines remain raised, so we ensure they are polished neatly without damaging the enamel.
- Durable Plating Finish
The plating (gold, silver, black nickel, etc.) gives your pin its final look, but it also needs to last. A good pin has a smooth, consistent plating layer with no bubbles, discoloration, or peeling.
We use professional plating lines with strict timing and quality checks to ensure durability. Even after months of wear or exposure to air, your pins should still look great.
By the way, we also offer special coatings (like clear epoxy) for soft enamel pins that need extra protection.
- Secure Attachments and Neat Packaging
The back of the pin matters too! We check that the back attachment is centered and firmly soldered. Loose or crooked pins are immediately rejected.
We also make sure the pin backs (butterfly clutch, rubber, or locking) are secure and match the order.
Finally, every pin is carefully packed to avoid scratches or damage during shipping. Clean packaging leaves a good first impression, and reflects the care we put into every order.
- Final Thoughts
A high-quality enamel pin is more than just a beautiful design. It's a combination of precision, technique, and attention to detail at every step.
At our factory, we take pride in the pins we make, because we know each one represents your brand, your story, or your community.
